
OHS Program Fundamentals Module 9: Injury Management

Description
This course provides a practical framework for developing and implementing effective Injury Management (IM) and Return-to-Work (RTW) programs. Participants will learn the purpose and benefits of these programs, including the key principles of preparation and communication that support their success. The course explores how to assess first aid needs, respond to incidents, and build RTW culture through written procedures, documentation, and training. Learners will also examine the roles and responsibilities of all staff in injury management, the classification of injuries, components of RTW plans, and methods for evaluating program effectiveness.
LEARNING OUTCOMES:
By the end of this element, learners will be able to:
- Explain the purpose, benefits, and key principles (preparation and communication) of an effective Injury Management (IM)/Return-to-Work (RTW) program
- Describe how to foster a RTW culture, including staff preparation, communication strategies, required documentation, and training
- Outline roles and responsibilities of all employees related to injury response and documentation
- Assess first aid requirements and describe appropriate incident response procedures
- Identify the components of written procedures, RTW kits, and RTW plans
- Classify minor, moderate, and major injuries and describe the appropriate response for each
- Describe the elements of an IM program and how to evaluate its effectiveness

- Managers and HR professionals managing or supporting RTW programs
- Supervisors involved in accommodating injured workers
- Safety coordinators and RTW program administrators
