Description

This course focuses on the administrative backbone of an effective health and safety program. Participants will learn how to manage health and safety records, including what must be documented, how records should be maintained, and who should receive the information. The course also covers developing a records administration policy, analyzing incident and near-miss data, and using key performance indicators - such as LTIFR and TRIR - to evaluate program effectiveness. Learners will explore how to assess trends through reporting tools like WorkSafeBC summaries and peer comparisons and understand the importance of communicating findings to drive continuous improvement.
 
LEARNING OUTCOMES: 
By the end of this element, learners will be able to: 
  • Identify required health and safety records, how to maintain them, and who should receive them
  • Describe the contents of a records administration policy and requirements for documenting incidents and near misses
  • Explain how to use statistics (LTIFR, TRIR) and reporting tools (WorkSafeBC summaries, peer comparisons) to evaluate health and safety performance
 
TARGET AUDIENCE:
  • Safety managers and administrators responsible for program oversight
  • Certificate of Recognition (COR) Program champions and internal auditors tracking performance metrics
  • HR or administrative personnel maintaining health and safety documentation
