This course provides essential knowledge and skills for conducting thorough investigations of workplace incidents and accidents. Participants will learn the objectives and purposes of investigations, differentiate between accidents and incidents, and understand the legal requirements for reporting and investigating. The course covers the development of investigation policies, procedures, and responsibilities, as well as the step-by-step process for conducting investigations. Learners will also explore how to write a final report, communicate findings effectively, and identify the training necessary for those conducting investigations.
LEARNING OUTCOMES:
By the end of this element, learners will be able to:
- Describe the objectives and purposes for conducting investigations
- Compare and contract the definitions of accidents and incidents
- Describe the content of an investigation policy including regulations, procedures, and responsibilities
- Explain the legal requirements for investigations
- Explain the process for reporting accidents and incidents
- Explain what is required in each step of the investigation process
- Describe how to write the final report and communicate the findings
- Describe the training that is required to conduct investigations

- Individuals seeking an introduction to incident investigations and those planning to progress to go2HR’s Workplace Inspections and Incident Investigations course
